Comparing Blog Tools

As I menitoned in class, you may want to evaluate a few blog tools before deciding on one.

1. Blogger http://www.blogger.com/
- integration with google is a good feature
2. WordPress to sign-up.
Here is a link to my wordpress site I like the tab feature.
WordPress and tutorials http://www.wordpresstutorials.com/newtowordpress.shtml
3. Edublogs http://edublogs.org/
- great for classroom setup *I noticed this site seems to be down this week, I was finally able to create a site today. Here is the link.

HI all

I started with edublogs and was very disappointed. First of all it was down for about 10 hours on the first day I tried it and then when if finally got back to my blog I just couldn't seem to set it up the way I wanted it. I still don't understand why you would use some of features like a new page. I also don't like the way it edits from the dashboard and not from ones main page. However, I do like the many page design ideas they offer. I will continue to use edublog because I wanted to see if it would useful for our school. I'll keep you posted. Marie

I decided to push myself this week and try out a few more blog applications. I created wordpress and edublogs. I was able to use wordpress without any issues and liked the fact the RSS feed is on the site along with tab templates. A few teachers in my building are using wordpress and they are very happy with it.

I struggled with edublogs, the site was down and I created an account (without the blog) and had difficulty getting back on track. I plan on exploring edublogs more this month.

I'm still happy with blogger, I just wish they found add the RSS feature so I would not have to use feedburner to make the RSS link along with a tab template.

Hi,

I, too, decided to try edublogs. I thought that creating the blog was quite simple but I have not played with all the features just yet. I would like to try blogspot as welll for a comparision.

Hi everybody -

I'm having a great time with blogger. I enjoy the ease of use and the features available. We're using wordpress with our group - I created an account there. It seems fine but not as many options perhaps. I'd like to look at edublogs for comparison's sake.

I have used blogger with first grade to tell of their travels to the countries they study. The one class that did the most was visiting England. I found it tough to expect each student to get a google account, so we made a class google account that they could use. This year third grade used blogger to blog about Pilgrims. They each took on a pilgrim character and had to respond to 3 posts asking them who there were, what they did, and how they dressed.
For our class project I chose to set up a blog in Wordpress. I like not having to sign in everytime I post to it like blogger requires. You mentioned the tabs Mary. I have yet to figure those out.
